1 Traffic Advisory on Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:00 pm

I was working the low altitude arrivals for McCarran International, runways 19L and 19R, and aircraft transiting the TCA enroute to or from the North Las Vegas Air Terminal (VGT). In general, my assigned airspace was that area north of the LAS ILS runway 25 approach below 4500 ft, and the area north of McCarran up to just south of the Showboat Hotel. I was also taking handoffs from the McCarran South Controller on aircraft that would have to make a normal traffic pattern at McCarran.

I had just picked up a VFR Piper Navajo inbound from the Grand Canyon Tour and Headed for VGT. It was Las Vegas Airlines, and all their pilots were military trained professionals. This one had a great sense of humor.

"Las Vegas 28, Las Vegas Approach Control, cleared into the TCA, proceed direct Vegas Wash, direct to the Showboat Hotel and then direct to North Las Vegas. Cross Vegas Wash at or below 4 thousand 5 hundred."

"Las Vegas 28, Roger."

Another minute or two went by and then this took place.

"Las Vegas 28, traffic 1 o'clock 3 miles, eastbound, a Scenic Twin Otter climbing out of 4 thousand."

"Las Vegas 28 roger, but could you give us another hint on the traffic? We all have digital watches today."
